Week of Hell

The restaurant was small, with a slight edge to it, standing forlornly in the middle of the open space. He parked the car in one of the spaces provided around it and killed the engine.

Sighing, he sank his head on the wheel. It had been one hell of a week. First the separation with his girlfriend and then the loss of his job. He hoped something would finally change for the better now, but somehow he doubted it.

He lifted his head off the wheel and left the car, locking it as he turned towards the restaurant. His family was waiting in there, he knew. His mother had sounded strangely distant on the phone, but it hadn’t bothered him until now.

As he entered the room and noticed that his father was absent, he immediately knew something was wrong. A car crash, his mother said, tears in her eyes. Died instantly.

‘Things can only get better…’ as the song goes. I think many of us cling to that thought after times when nothing seems to go right. The greeting he got couldn’t have been much worse. Very nicely written, Felicia.

You’re right – it’s a thought that gives us hope, even though things are still getting worse. I hope for his sake that things do get better, though – you never know!
Thank you for the comment – I’m glad you enjoyed my writing!

  3. Good one! :-) I wrote a story too and noticed your entry on InLinkz but I didn’t see a pingback for you on the FFfAW challenge page. Did something go wrong?

Oh dear, life can really do that to you at times. I agree with luckyjc007, family support needed at such times. Nicely written!

What a hell of a place to tell someone their loved one has died.

That’s got to be the worst week in his life! Such a sad, depressing story, but life is like that sometimes. We need the support of family and friends at times like this , just to get through it.

Definitely the worst week! Sometimes life just goes through hell. Other times it feels like you can’t be more lucky. I suppose we all get our equal share – though we certainly need family and friends in times like these!

Sad one Felicia. A quick death is good at least.
